Dear Commissioners,

I oppose the proposed surface mining at Douglas Point in Nanjemoy. The mine will cause irreparable damage to:
  • bass fisheries;
  • 57 million year old fossils unique to North America;
  • the habitat of rare plants, animals, and birds;
  • the critical area zone through major construction, stockpiling, and continual disruption;
  • wetlands through the placement and construction of the conveyor belt system and load out basin;
  • the existing peaceful surrounding through excessive noise and dust.

The surface mining provides no benefits to the citizens of Charles County. I support the use of this unique property as a public park.
